#Homophobia

Slept longer, but I did not. Now I sit, waiting for trains to pass through town, tbe coffee to be ready. The train has passed through town, the coffee ready and I am now watching Porky Pig  cartoons, with politically incorrect racial stereotyping, added to the cheap laughs garnered from Porky’s unfortunate stammer.

One cartoon featured a cockatoo, and I thought of the Gillette parrot who would squawk in early TV commercials “How are ya fixed for blades?” Gillette sponsored the Friday Night Fights.

“The Friday Night Fights are on the air!” shouted the tv announcer. They would then commence to have boxing matches. Then, in 1962, about the ssme time Etnie Kovacs died in an auto accident, Emile Griffitb beat Benny “Kid” Paret to a pulp. Paret would later die from the injuries. It seemed like the fights weren’t on the air too much longer after that incident. (I later learned Paret had called Griffith a “faggot“ and Griffitb took exception to the taunt.”)

They used to sing the National Anthem at the movies during World War Two. I wonder if anybody complained.

I am sleepy again. My big plans for going out and being more productive today now hinge on when I wake up again.

“Night folks”.

# Bendito Tentacion, #Asperger's Sybdrone, #Looney Tunes

Of Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies, and other miscellaneous cartoonage,

Actually I’ve been through this one before. If four hours of mostly World War Two vintage cartoons seems like overkill, it is. At this point, I have five minutes left. But what’s a sexually deprived 68 year old man to do, if he decides he’s too tired to swim tonight and his wife is boxing up sun tan lotion before Downton Abbey comes on?

Cartoons finished, wife upstairs, I’m now watching Bendita Tentacion, the Mexican trashy lingerie show. I don’t know how long this will hold my attention. Actually I miss the quiet of no TV, but I’ll settle for a gratuitous thrill from these Champions of Body & Sex Positivity from Mexico. You gotta love ’em. Looks like it’s a cancer awareness show tonight, with pink balloons and a couple of doctors on as guests. One of the lingerie models is demonstrating breast self-examinations. I don’t think you would see this show on U.S. broadcast TV.

I’m going up to the quiet in a bit. The no TV moratorium will resume.

I slept a lot today. I talked with C, #2 son, as he decided to go over Jordan Peterson’s list of 102 books to read, book by book. It’s not a bad list at all, titles worthy of being read. It’s just exhausting, but that’s how being with an Asperger’s person can be. He can’t help it. I love him anyway.

This was a frustrating day. My wonderful Asperger’s son called, wore me out, but I would do it again, just to hear his voice. I watched families with beautiful children having pizza at Mellow Mushroom. The loneliness and loss buttons were pushed hard and long today.

Now I need the sleep.

#Grief

I woke up in the middle of the night again. I’m used to that.

There is a funeral in eight hours for a guy from the fellowship who killed himself. I should go but I don’t want to go. I just want to stay home. I told my friend H I was ambivalent about going. He understands.

I chaired a meeting last night on the First Step, “we were powerless over alcohol, that our lives had become unmanageable.” Sobriety gives me the chance to do the next right thing.

Right now I’m watching a Popeye cartoon, For Better Or Worser. Popeye is dealing with the unmanageability in his life by getting a wife, who turns out to be Olive Oyl. As luck would have it, Bluto is also interested in Olive as a potential marital partner. Chaos follows. So the little drama plays out in the whimsical, wacky cartoon world with a musical score in perfect harmony with the relentless craziness. The moral “Don’t take yourself too seriously.”

I guess I feel ambivalent about seeing my former sister-in-law again, who, at one time, was friends with the dead guy.

Feelings of worthlessness are coming up because of my failed marriage with her sister. The last time I saw Sal was at my ex-wife’s funeral, four years ago.

I don’t want to revisit that pain again.

The voice of Popeye was Billy Costello, “Red Pepper Sam” in the early cartoons before Jack Mercer took over doing the voice.

Now comes King Of The Mardi Gras, Mercer’s first turn as Popeye. Bluto was voiced by Gus Wickie, the most famous of the Bluto voices. Olive Oyl was Mae Questel, the one and only voice of Olive. To put a face with a name Mae played Aunt Bethany, in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Now you know the rest of the story

Up. And Going.

Pain

(Back To Bed)

Maybe there is hope. The pain woke me up. But it isn’t as bad as even yesterday.. Applying a little Tiger Balm seems to help with it.

I’m a watching some old Warner Brothers Merrie Melodies cartoons on YouTube, stuff that I think ended up in the public domain through some failure of WB (or successor entities) to maintain the copyright. It happens.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. J likes James Avery charms. So I bought her two new ones, a rose to remember her late brother, a Master Gardener, and a cross because she’s Catholic. She got another neck chain to display them as part of the special at Dillard’s. Baby got new bling. She’s happy.

I have almost finished the cup of decaf I fixed in Keurig© machine and the cartoon playing features two cats who are Abbott and Costello knock offs (look them up on IMdB or Wikipedia). It also features what may be the first appearance of Tweety. The cartoon is called A Tale of Two Kitties (get it?).

Now Porky and Daffy are on. Daffy is having a manic episode, no surprise there, and the background is very evocative of Art Deco. Nice. Daffy is now doing a Carmen Miranda schtick. Many of you will need to look her up too. Title of this one Yankee Doodle Daffy.

OK . Bedtime. 2:00 AM.
