There I was congratulating myself about losing interest in sports. Ice Hockey? Really?. Basketball? Meh? Baseball? I suppose. Women’s Softball? I can detect a pulse Doctor. Cricket? Where have you been all my life?!
I just finished watching New Zealand claw out a win from South Africa. They pulled it out at the very end on a “6” from Kane Williamson, their captain, on the last over.
Believe it or not, it’s not that difficult a game to follow. There is a lot of insider language and jargon in the game that is best ignored until you become familiar with the game. I’m growing into the idioms of the sport.
And tomorrow? Australia vs Bangladesh. You’ll find me at home, sitting in my comfy chair, eyes fixed on the 📺 telly.
I quite like cricket, but we don’t have the right TV package to watch. G watches on his tablet, but I haven’t seen much of the World Cup at all. I’m loving that you’re following things, have you ever seen a live match?
You mean with my rear end parked in the stands whilst the match takes place? No. Here in Virginia, the real fans of the game are Indians and other Southwest Asians. We have 3 ICC regulation fields in Henrico County, where I live. But it’s going to take some work on my part, but it shouldn’t be that hard.
I’ll bet the India / Pakistan match was popular there! Most of my real match viewing was when I was a teenager, my dad and brothers played for a local team. Amateur cricket is fun, if a little slower than the professional game. I’m glad you are enjoying the World Cup.
It is great. I think the United States have tremendous potential. Cricketers don’t have to be big to be good players, unlike basketball or American football. There is a youth league/program started with Strikers, a youth sports organization in the area. The World Cup showed the West Indians playing with a certain panache with which Americans can identify. Only a matter of time before the US is on the cricket map.
Not sure whether that would be good or bad 😂😂
I get that, big time. It would be a positive if “white”, black, Latino youth here participated with the Southwest Asian kids. The Indian youth have a stereotype of being these “dorky” kids who excel at robotics and the National Spelling Bee. So many Indian Americans are entering the mainstream in many areas. It would exciting to see the flower of this cultural cross pollination.
