The ICC World Cup of Cricket is on a FIOS Channel called Willow. I just pressed some buttons on the remote and Bob’s Your Uncle, a new world opened up. Here are teams from countries that were once part of the British Empire, playing the game that accompanied those empire builders. The sponsors employ, here, in the U S of A, Southwest Asian-Americans, speaking for State Farm Insurance, Emirates Airlines, Paypal, and other international currency exchange services.

So this is my first, more or less, real-time exposure to cricket. The temptation, as a Yank, is to compare it to baseball. But that would be like comparing an opera to a rock concert because there’s music in both. It is a fascinating game, not that hard to follow at all. It looks like fun. . No wonder the game is a living legacy of the Empire.
