I’ve been watching a lot of newsreel footage from 1914. Germany’s Kaiser, Wilhelm II, was frequently filmed with dachshunds. Quite handsome little mutts, I must admit. His great niece, Elizabeth II of The United Kingdom, is known for her corgis.
I don’t know where this is going. Marie Antoinette allegedly took her papillon with her to the guillotine, Charles I was said to take his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with him for his meeting with the headsman.
Useless information. I concede. Now you know.
Is this fact or one of those internet myths: President John F. Kennedy’s terrier Charlie had puppies with Laika’s (i.e. first living being to travel in space in Russia’s Sputnik, 1957) daughter Pushinka?
Great question. I wish I knew.
So I checked. Yes It’s true. Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet leader sent Pushinka to the Kennedy’s as a gift. She did breed with Charlie, and had a litter of 4 pups. Jackie, realizing 4 puppies in the White House would be a bit much, gave them away.
