Standing On Line, 8 November 2016

Communism, economics, freedom, voting

This is the 99th Anniversary of The October Revolution in Russia. It was a coup d’etat that brought Lenin and the Bolsheviks to power in Russia. Triumphant over the counter-revolutionary White faction after a bloody civil war following this seizure of power, Communism, Marxism-Leninism, held on to control the government and economy  until the early 1990’s.

An awful lot of people who voted today in the US of A weren’t even born until after Communism collapsed. I thought about that demographic fact standing on queue to vote today. I waited, shuffling forward for nearly forty five minutes before my turn came. It was a minor inconvenience. When I think of standing on line, I remember hearing the common complaint of most Russians under Communism that standing on line was the norm, so rife were shortages in Russia. The state-controlled economy could not meet the needs of the people. The common sense logic dictated that, if one saw a line forming, one got in it, because whatever was available at the end of the line was something a person probably needed, whether it was a chicken, cloth or toilet paper.

We, as a nation, as states, cities, counties and Congressional Districts, voted today. This constitutional republic voted to choose its leader and representatives, the ones who make and execute the laws under which this nation governs itself.

Were it a meaningless exercise, fortunes would not have been spent, advocating for one outcome over another, for one party to gain power over another. People emigrate to the United States because individual, personal freedom is the reality.

Who knows how it will turn out. But We The People expressed our will.

Crazy Thoughts

  1. God won’t forgive me for being happy
  2. I have to stay married to Mrs CorC? til one of us dies.
  3. Another relationship will make me happy.
  4. If I just buy what they sell on the commercials they show during the football games, I will be happy. Beer, a Lincoln, Pepsi, Papa John’s Pizza, Cialis.
  5. Maybe if I bought Mrs CorC? that diamond, we would have sex.

I told you they were crazy thoughts. Are you glad they’re not in your head?

Annette was the proud owner of a metallic silver aluminum Christmas Tree with the color wheel and the Christmas ornaments in one color, red, I think. Part of her coolness.

The story about my cousins will have to wait. Here’s the deal. Sitting is uncomfortable for me right now. I’m good for a little while, but the back pain can be a distraction.

There are a number of you bloggers I follow. I love hearing from you and about your lives. I know, from my own experience, how hard it can be to share your lives. What you share is invaluable.

I am using my Smartphone so I don’t know if my patience will give out before I say what I want, no, have to say.

I was struck by a fit of industriousness and earnest intention yesterday. Today I wonder where they have gone. ‘Cause, right now, I don’t wanna do nothing!  I slept till 1:00 PM , begged off the Y, fixed another pot of coffee, and went online, wasting time.

Yesterday, in the comments to my post, I felt as if I connected with another human being. Some may consider sex, however expressed, as the primal act. I think, rather, it is hearing and being heard, by another person.True intimacy.

He has been dead for decades now. I never met him. Yet his television series Civilisation is a constant resource for me. His calm, measured, learned voice holds forth still. He was a master narrator above all else. His observations about what makes a society a civilization constantly intrigue me. Right now, as I write, he is talking about the preservation of the basic texts of Western civilization by Irish monks.

I suppose you could argue about his perspective and points of emphasis, but he knew his subject and his view is a jumping off point for other perspectives.

When I consider my day, the events, both positive and negative, I feel agitated and attached to the situations and outcomes. I am reliving the experiences in my brain. Ken’s story (he preferred to be called Ken) is uplifting, positive, calming. His narrative of human achievement, informed and inspired by faith, at least in the early chapters, is reassuring. We have a culture far greater than the scoundrels who aspire to the power to direct it.

    An Epilogue: PEG3350. OMG. KMN.

I received the results of the biopsy of the polyp. It was noncancerous. I see The Boy Wonder (Dr. Gastroenterologist) again in five years.

My back and neck were hurting after this procedure and a nurse friend of mine told me that getting me in the proper position for the colonoscopy (fetal position) may have put some stress on my fusion site,  but I feel a little better every day.

I’m sitting here with a cold pack on my shoulder. It’s a little sore from my swim. Not unusual.

We had a cold summertime supper, spiced shrimp, fresh tomatoes, artichoke hearts, pickled red cabbage. I’m drinking my decaf, watching a World War Two documentary,  The World At War. Upstairs Mrs C or C? is watching. The Bachelorette,  perhaps the most effective form of birth control ever created. It is a real erection-killer.

The heat is kicking our rear ends as it always does in July.  There may be a break on Wednesday. We shall see.  I would prefer to write at the computer, but that would mean sitting up and keyboarding for a while. And my energy is draining from me.

    Goodnight all.

“Out of the clear blue of the Western sky comes Sky King!”

That sentence is burned forever in my brain. It was the opening of a popular children’s show on Saturday morning, Sky King, from the 1950’s and 60’s.  It’s  funny what my mind recalls about this show. The star was an actor named Kirby Grant. The name of his aircraft was The Songbird. His niece was named Penny and she called him Uncle Sky.  The sponsor was Nabisco Wheat Honeys and Rice Honeys and cartoon bees were involved in the promotion for said cereals.

    Officially Retired

I haven’t worked since May of 2015. The company has had me on Leave of Absence for these past fourteen months, which is bloody nice of them. Now, almost nine months post-fusion, I decided that risking reinjury or a new injury wasn’t worth it. So I resigned/retired today. Turns out my disability claim will continue to be paid until the insurer considers me fit to work. Their consideration is independent of my employment status.

The resigning part was easy. It was just a phone call, a very cordial phone call. But the real story of today was taking care of my stepmother after her fall from a treadmill at the Y. I will share that tomorrow. Lest the suspense kill you, she is OK, some stitches are there, but she’s OK.
